Coast Leather run by Matt Horrocks is based in Southbourne, Dorset.
I design and make leather goods like belts, wallets, notebook covers and watch straps, using techniques and materials that have changed very little throughout the course of history.
I do not use any machines in the production of my leather goods – all my products are hand cut, hand stitched and hand finished using only a small selection of tools. Every piece of leather handles differently and I love the enjoyable challenge of working with this natural material.
As mass production becomes more and more prevalent, it is very important to me that the products I make have as small an environmental impact as possible, so wherever available I use materials from UK suppliers.

The leather I use for my handmade leather belts comes from a tannery in Devon, who produce a world leading bridle leather using only sustainably produced English oak bark and local river water. Tanning the leather in this method is a process which takes about 15 months and has remained unchanged for hundreds of years.
All my products are made to order, giving my customers the choice of leather colour, stitching colour, and any added extras like notebook clasps, pen holders, or stitching designs on my leather belts.
Over time, each piece of leather will age slightly differently, adding a very personal patina and look to your purchase, and compared to off-the-shelf alternatives, the longevity and quality provided by handmade leather goods mean that you will own a belt, wallet or watch strap that lasts a lifetime, rather than a few months.
I am primarily an online business but can welcome visitors to my workshop by prior arrangement.
