Sarah Core Arts – Sarah is a ceramic artist and educator, creating unique figurative sculpture and hand held functional ceramics.  Her work is to a great extent about ‘being a woman’ and she began to make following a life-threatening accident in 2004.  Her recovery was both an internal and external one, integrating the two to reach wholeness and this theme is central to all aspects of her work.

Sarah studied at Central St Martins College of Art and Design and after exploring different materials, now works with two types of clay.  She loves the freedom of expression that is possible with these clays and the marrying of form and colour are a constant source of delight.

“Throwing on the Leach Wheel is a deeply physical and repetitive process; it is at the heart of my conversation with ritual and domestic space.  There is a profound pleasure in working with a natural material to bring a tea bowl or teapot to life in this way.  It brings about a state of mind that continues through all the building methods I work with.”
