Red Lion Books has been owned and run by Peter and Sarah Donaldson since 1978. The shop is proudly independent, open 6 days a week selling a wide range of new titles across many genres. They, and the team at Red Lion Books, offer a huge amount of experience and enthusiasm.
We offer a thoughtfully curated, wide range of stock but can order thousands of other titles and using an overnight order service deliver books nationally.

National book delivery service
We accept and sell national book tokens as well as our own Red Lion Books tokens
We welcome book clubs and run 5 of our own at the shop for different age groups: 7-10, 11-13, 13+ and grown-ups. Our grown-up book club is well established with over 100 members meeting monthly
We love to promote our monthly UNDERWRAPS which is wrapped up, carefully selected, new fiction, sold as a ‘blind date’ book.
We offer a subscription service.
We are proud to have close links with the Essex Book Festival.
We enjoy good relationships with local schools, advising on and delivering relevant books within set budgets.
