Karina Gill is a Contemporary Silversmith based in Dorset. Karina’s aim as a contemporary silversmith is to demonstrate first-class craftsmanship throughout her distinctive, sculptural pieces.
Over twenty years ago, Karina unearthed a deceptively simple and unique idea, which had the potential to develop an infinite number of variations on a single minded theme. The idea drew influence from nature’s patterns and organic repetition – the endlessly uniform variety inspired by seed pods, fossils and ferns. It also drew on the principles of print-making and textiles, creating an outcome that is delicate yet solid, natural yet structural, simple yet confoundingly complex.
This unusual technique has gained Karina awards from the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council for craftsmanship and design winning commendations and a silver award for her sculptural silver bowls.
- Sculptural Silver Bowls
- Silver Boxes
- Collectable Caddy Spoons
- Gem Set Silver Jewellery
- Commissions in Silver or Gold
Her silver pieces have been selected for the 17th and 18th Silver Triennial International, a curated touring exhibition highlighting new trends in contemporary silver and she has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London with the Contemporary British Silversmiths and with Christie’s in South Kensington, London.
Karina graduated from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham where she gained a BA (Hons) in 3 Dimensional Design in metalwork. Since completing her degree in 1996 she has built up her business from her workshop in Dorset where she designs and makes her contemporary silverware and jewellery.
Karina exhibits her work regularly throughout the year at contemporary craft fairs and through exhibitions where she sells her silverware and jewellery.
