Willow & Yoga are a family craft business with over 20 years of passing on the art of weaving willow. We started out twisting sticks using hedgerow materials before discovering the flexibility of the many different willow species, the joy of those early creations led us on a journey of discovery, learning different weaves and techniques from other experienced tutors.
Over these years we have planted and nurtured a variety of different coloured willow species which we incorporate into our designs and for the use of our students in their creations, as well as supporting another family willow growing business based in the Somerset levels. This led to us creating a range of contemporary and traditional baskets along with functional willow creations for the house and garden as well as taking on individual commissions.
We now teach small groups of interested people who come together to share and experience the pleasure of creating something functional and beautiful on our willow making courses. Our Spring and Summer workshop/studio is tucked away in a private woodland deep in the Surrey Hills, it’s a wonderful quiet space in which to relax and learn, no services means we have a simple approach with a compost loo and water boiled on the fire. In the colder months when the weather is inclement we have the choice of our home studio as well as supporting the local village hall.
Our website will give you lots of ideas on the types of creations you can make with us. We welcome weavers that are just starting out on their journey as well as improvers who are still making their way.
Weekends or weekdays. All courses start at 10am, the half day courses are planned for 3 hours, they are delivered either in the morning or afternoon, the full day courses finish by 5pm and include a lunch break.
