Skoob Books

Independent secondhand bookshop in the heart Bloomsbury

Skoob Books is an independent secondhand bookshop (proprietor Chris Edwards) in the heart Bloomsbury, near Russell Square tube. It is one of those shops where you may find the book you’ve been looking for, or one you hadn’t heard of.

There are over 50,000 books in the shop, after we’ve removed 5,000, to allow more space for social distancing – and about twice as many again at our warehouse. Those can either be ordered online at, or brought in for you to look and decide first.

We have served generations of students at very reasonable prices and there is much for the general reader. Just about every subject:

  • Philosophy and Psychology
  • Art, Drama, Film and Photography
  • Law, Politics and Economics
  • Classics to Medieval
  • Maths and Science
  • Sociology and Anthropology
  • History, Race and Religion
  • Travel and Cookery

And so forth. With many metres of paperback fiction and general reading, you’ll want Skoob in your life.

The second user books on our shelves are priced at half or less, of what they would cost if bought new (those from our warehouse reflect the going rate online). There is a further 10% discount for students (conditions apply). Book tokens accepted, mail order welcome, we ship worldwide. Skoob Books is a Living Wage Employer.

Skoob is on Marchmont Street side of The Brunswick, just along from Waitrose‘s rear exit. We are usually open 10.30am-8.00pm Monday-Saturday + Bank Holidays and 10.30am-6.00pm Sundays. However due to the pandemic, the shop is currently closed. We plan to reopen when conditions allow, see our facebook page for updates. Similarly, our book buying is currently on hold, if you have a collection to sell, we can advise by email.
