Artist Sarah Trenchard is well known for her unique interpretation of animals. Her 3D paper and wire art is instantly recognizable and unforgettable. It is like bringing wildlife into your home or office.
She recreates the wonder of wildlife by casting ever changing shadows from just hand cut paper animals and wire, creating illusions of animal behaviour and movement such as birds flying, fish swimming and bumble bees buzzing around.
She does this by fixing 2D animal papercuts to layers of horizontally and vertically spaced nylon threads, forming an almost invisible 3d grid, anchored by the deep frame. It creates an illusion of the animals being 3D, moving and floating in the air. Another layer of depth to the illusion is made by the everchanging, moving, mesmerising shadows cast by the papercuts. The choice the papercuts is inspired by her love of wildlife, rural life and animals.
She has a BSc in Zoology and Animal Behaviour and worked in animal health and welfare for 18 years before moving into bespoke picture framing. She has been a Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) professional picture framer since 2016 and runs her own business, FELLOWS FRAMING alongside creating her art.
Sarah is a finalist for acclaimed “The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Artist of the Year 2019 and 2020” and a member of The Wildlife Art Society International that promotes art with conservation.
She lives in the rural Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and welcomes enquires and studio visits (by appointment only please).
