Jane Catherine Sanders

Jane Catherine Sanders is an artist working in both paintings and ceramics.

My paintings involve a love of landscape – sun, sea, sky, flora and fauna and then capturIng a moment in time with the seasons or light. The local countryside is a never ending source of inspiration.

Most are in oil paints with some acrylic.

Another style involves using the creations of nature, leaves and tree bark as a background to paint animals and birds.

I have done some watercolours too, some of which are in The Really Wonderful Food Book, a collection of healthy recipes with a glossary of what nutrients do for you.

The painting has then extended to the medium of ceramic to create fine painted bead jewellery.

My Ceramic Bead Jewellery is fashioned from earthenware clay and biscuit fired. The beads are then hand painted using the natural mineral elements such as cobalts and coppers. This may be a pattern from ancient symbols or a complete landscape painted on an individual bead. After glazing they are then fired again, some in a traditional kiln and others in a Japanese Raku kiln which give a different range of colours and textures. If a real gold or platinum detail is added this then requires the beads to be fired a third time.

All the clasps and ear wires are sterling silver.
